Jasmin Vardimon nos habla sobre su última creación, Medusa

Jasmin Vardimon nos adentra en Medusa, y nos cuenta cómo ha sido su experiencia con nosotros en Espacio que Vuela

Nos sentimos realmente afortunados, por haber participado con nuestro espacio en su última Class Audition, así como haber tenido la ocasión de preguntarle por Medusa. Atentos porque es realmente interesante el modo en que define el enfoque de la obra, así como lo que la ha inspirado a centrarse en los temas que envuelven su última gran creación de prestigio internacional, Medusa.

EQV: How was your experience here in Madrid?

Jasmin Vardimon: «It’s a great experience, it’s the first time here in Madrid, It’s was our first time in Madrid, and it was a great experience. Last year the company was relocated to Barcelona to create Medusa, which is my recent creation, so we all had a fantastic time living in Spain, so everybody was very excited about coming back, but obviously, here it’s a different scenario, different place, different people, we had great experience in the theatre, in Teatro Canal, the performance went very well, there was a very good response from the audience¨.

EQV: ¿Cómo ha sido vuestra experincia aquí en Madrid?

Jasmin Vardimon: Ha sido una experiencia genial, y es nuestra primera vez aquí en Madrid. El año pasado la compañía fue reubicada en Barcelona para crear Medusa, mi última creación, y la verdad es que pasamos un tiempo fantástico viviendo en España. Todo el mundo estaba muy emocionado por volver, pero obviamente, ahora es un lugar distinto, con un escenario y personas diferentes.

Tuvimos una muy buena experiencia en el Teatro de Canal, la actuación fue muy bien, y tuvimos una gran acogida por el público.

EQV: What are the next steps from here?

Jasmin Vardimon: ¨So we are performing Medusa still in the UK, so we’ll be returning to the UK next week and then performing Medusa. And with Pinocchio we are continuing from here, the scenery went to Macau, to Hong Kong and then to Seoul, we’ll perform there in April, and then we’ll going to a city called Jinju in South Korea in May¨.

EQV: ¿Cuáles son los siguientes pasos a partir de ahora?

Jasmin Vardimon: Estamos realizando Medusa todavía en Reino Unido, donde volveremos la próxima semana con esta performance; y con Pinocchio seguimos desde aquí. El paisaje estuvo en Macau, en Hong Kong, y después en Seoul, lugar donde actuaremos en abril. Más tarde en mayo iremos a la ciudad de Jung Jung en Corea del Sur.

EQV: If you could start a new project right now, which theme are you interested in talking about?

Jasmin Vardimon: ¨So Medusa is very much, the piece that I just created. It’s affected by the current social and political situation, the environmental changes, it looks to the plastic in the sea and pollution but also talks about the gender inequality. 

It’s inspired by the myth of Medusa, it’s revealing because most of the people only remember the part about Medusa (the monster) and Perseus, but they forget what happened to her in order to become that monster. She was raped by Poseidon in the temple of Athena and then punished by changing from a beautiful woman to this monster.

I find it very interesting that nowadays people still use the myth of Medusa to portray monster women, an example of this was Donald Trump calling Hillary “Medusa” during his campaign. So, it’s very much about gender inequality but also how we treat Mother Earth, Gaia«.

EQV: Si pudieses empezar un nuevo proyecto ahora, ¿de qué tema te gustaría hablar?

Jasmin Vardimon: Medusa como la pieza que he creado abarca muchos temas. El discurso está influenciado por temas sociales y la situación política, así como el cambio climático; es como una mirada a la contaminación que provoca el plástico en el mar, pero sin olvidarnos de la desigualdad de género.

Está inspirada en el mito de Medusa, y es revelador porque la mayoría de las personas sólo recuerdan la parte de Medusa (el monstruo) y Perseo, pero se han olvidado de lo que la llevó a convertirse en ese monstruo. Ella fue violada por Poseidon en el templo de Atenas y castigada, desponjándola de su belleza y transformándola en ese monstruo.

Encuentro realmente interesante hoy en día, que las personas todavían usen el mito de Medusa para retratar a las mujeres “monstruo”. Un ejemplo de ésto, fue cuando Donald Trump llamó a Hillary “Medusa” durante su campaña. Entonces es un tema de desigualdad de género, pero también es sobre el modo en como tratamos a la Madre Tierra, Gaia.

EQV: How was your time here in Espacio que Vuela?

Jasmin Vardimon: «Yes, it’s was great, it’s so fantastic and a beautiful studio you have, really nice light, and space, and we had really nice time».

EQV: ¿Cómo ha sidovuestra experiencia aquí en Espacio que Vuela?

Jasmin Vardimon: Ha sido muy buena, tenéis un estudio muy bonito y fantástico, con una luz natural preciosa, y muy espacioso. Hemos pasado un tiempo formidable.
